8 Questions you may have about the Edenred Refeição Card

The Edenred Refeição card is a benefit given by companies to their employees to help them cover the cost of meals during their working day.

Since the meal allowance is a supplement to remuneration, and the meal card is not a bank card, you may have already had doubts about how to use it.

That’s why we want to help you clarify some of the questions you may have about Edenred Refeição. Find out with us the answers to some common doubts.

Advantages of receiving the meal allowance at Edenred Refeição

Edenred Refeição is not a means of payment, but a social voucher designed to guarantee workers access to nutritious food while at work. As it is a social benefit, it has a differentiated tax treatment, being exempt from IRS and TSU up to the amount of €10.20/day.

This tax saving results in greater liquidity for expenditure on meals and food. For example, if you receive €10.20/day in meal allowance through Edenred Refeição, you could receive €315 more net per year than if you received the same amount in cash. You can simulate your real savings here.

This increase in purchasing power on food is accompanied by the possibility of saving on many other products and services that are useful to you. With the Discounts and Advantages Program, aimed at Edenred users, you can enjoy discounts on fuel, insurance, telecommunications, energy, professional training, animal services, among others.

There are more than 60 brands with exclusive advantages. To discover all the brands, and find out how you can access their discounts, all you need to do is go to the “Advantages” section of your MyEdenred App.

Where can I check my card balance and movements?

With Edenred Refeição, you can check the balance and movements of your card at any time and wherever you are. Download the MyEdenred App, available on iOS, Android and HUAWEI, or register at MyEdenred.pt, and associate your card number.

As well as being able to access your balance and movements in real time, you can also take advantage of other features, such as searching for member establishments or the possibility of suggesting new establishments that are not yet part of the network.

The MyEdenred App is also where you can access the Discounts and Advantages Program.

Can I link the card to MB WAY?

Even when you forget your physical card, you can make payments with Edenred Refeição using your cell phone. If you usually use MB WAY, you can link your card number to your account in this app and start making contactless payments at Edenred member establishments.

I can’t remember my card PIN, what should I do?

If you don’t know your Edenred Refeição PIN, you’ll need to request a new code from our user support team. You can do this by calling 707 500 360, available every day between 8am and midnight.

You should do the same if you have missed three PIN attempts and your card has been blocked.

I’ve lost my card, what should I do?

If your Edenred card is lost or misplaced, you should immediately block it in the MyEdenred App. All you have to do is click on your card and then select the “Block card” option. In this way, and while you can’t locate it, you prevent the risk of it being used by third parties.

Then, if you find the card, you can unblock it in the MyEdenred app and use it again as normal.

If you can’t find your card, you should ask for a replacement via our user support line (707 500 360, available every day between 8am and midnight). We will send you a new card with the same balance that was available on the old card when it was blocked.

Why isn’t it accepted in all establishments?

As already mentioned, Edenred Refeição is not a means of payment, but a social voucher, the purpose of which is to ensure that employees have access to a balanced diet during the working day. Social meal vouchers emerged after the Second World War, when employers, instead of having canteens, began distributing meal vouchers to workers so that they could have lunch in local restaurants and have a decent meal.

Since social vouchers have this purpose, and in order to ensure that they are used to purchase meals and food, Edenred Refeição can only be used in catering and food retail establishments that have a commercial agreement with the issuing entity (in this case, Edenred).

What’s more, the Edenred meal card can also only be used on national territory. This is because another of the objectives of social benefits is to stimulate economic activity and generate a virtuous circle that boosts the local economy and contributes to society.

As such, Edenred Refeição can be used in a network of over 38,000 member establishments in mainland Portugal and the islands. This network includes restaurants, supermarkets, cafés, pastry shops and bakeries, butchers, fishmongers and other similar establishments.

How do I know if an establishment accepts Edenred Refeição?

With the MyEdenred App, you can find out at any time if an establishment is part of the Edenred network. You can find all the member establishments near you or you can search by the name of a particular establishment. You can also filter by restaurants or food stores.

If you want to use your Edenred Refeição in an establishment that is not yet part of our network, you can suggest that establishment in the MyEdenred App. Enter some details so that our team can get in touch with those responsible and close the partnership. When this happens, we’ll let you know that you can now use your card at the establishment you suggested.

You can also make suggestions for establishments here. Here’s a tip: if you don’t know some of the details, such as the address or telephone number, we suggest you look at the invoice for the payment you made at that establishment.

Is it possible to use the card to make online purchases?

Yes, as long as you link Edenred Refeição to MB WAY. As well as being able to use MB WAY to make contactless payments in physical establishments, you can also make online purchases on platforms and apps that offer this payment method.

Some of the sites and apps where you can use the Edenred Meal card are Uber Eats, Continente, Auchan, Mercadão, 360hyper, EatTasty, DIG-IN, Prozis, Celeiro, among many others.

To use Edenred Refeição, you just need to select this card when finalizing the purchase and validating the payment in the MB WAY application.
