Skating, piano, theater, soccer or even scouting, do you know what they have in common? Not only are they all extracurricular activities, but they are also excellent influences on your children’s development. Do your children already play sport, music or dance in their free time? Read this article and discover the advantages of extracurricular activities in education.
Trimmmm! When the bell sounds, the children immediately start running down the school corridors. I’m sure your children are no different. The question is, where do they go next? Home, tennis, soccer or piano lessons?
Practicing extracurricular activities is an increasingly common reality and, associated with it, the advantages are countless. However, you need to be careful not to overload your children. As well as making time for practice after school, your children need to be able to reconcile it with school obligations and family time.
What are the advantages of extracurricular activities?
Increasing responsibility and developing new skills in different areas are, of course, on the list. But the points in favor of extracurricular activities don’t stop there:
- Making new friends and building relationships with peers is fundamental to your children’s development. Practicing team or group activities stimulates this skill.
- Of course, teamwork is also a skill gained. By practicing extracurricular activities, children learn that, more than an individual goal, they have a common goal: to achieve the best performance.
- In addition, your children also gain an extra dose of responsibility, as they learn to make commitments.
- Making commitments teaches them to manage their time better, bearing in mind that they can’t neglect school. Between extracurricular activities and lessons, there still has to be time for homework, studying and, very importantly, playing.
- Behavior naturally tends to improve because the more time children spend doing extracurricular activities, the less time they have to engage in problematic behavior or put themselves in risky situations.
- Dedication and commitment also begin to increase, which ends up directly influencing school productivity in a positive way.
- When it comes to sports, we can’t fail to mention one of the most important advantages: physical health. As the saying goes, “it’s when you’re little that you turn the cucumber”, so it’s crucial that children start following healthy routines and lifestyles right from the start.
