18 de October, 2019

Have you eaten fruit today? What about vegetables? Before you answer, read this text. And don’t be alarmed, we’re not going to tell you again about the importance of healthy eating. You already know that. But do you know what you can change in your daily habits that, without much effort, will make all the difference? If not, come on… we have some tips to share with you.

In a week dedicated to healthy eating and the celebration of World Food Day on October 16, it’s inevitable to talk about how, with small gestures, you can join this cause. For example, have you eaten fruit today? What about vegetables, do you include them in your daily routine? The clock strikes 7 a.m. and jumping out of bed is the start of your day. Between baths, toilets, the briefcase with the laptop and work paperwork, there has to be time to prepare a snack and have breakfast before you leave the house. The clock is ticking and chaos has definitely set in. However, we’re here to help. To begin with, we’re going to tell you what can’t be missing from your daily meals:

  • Strawberry healthy eating Have you had breakfast yet? Then grab a piece of fruit! Mix it with yogurt and cereal, eat it in pulp or make a natural juice. The important thing is that you consume between three and five portions throughout the day.
  • Wheat If you can’t resist toast for breakfast or a bowl of cereal with milk, don’t give it up. Just opt for whole grain cereals, dark bread or bread with seeds and you’ll notice the difference.
  • Olive oil For lunch and dinner, try replacing oil and butter with olive oil or coconut oil. Your meals will be tastier and, even better, healthier.
  • Vegetables healthy eating Throughout the day, it’s also essential to always have a portion of vegetables to color your plate. Raw, boiled or roasted, they come in all colors, flavors and shapes. In salads or as a side dish, the options are diverse.

What are you waiting for to start changing some habits? Follow these tips and you’ll see how small gestures really do make a difference.

And for the little ones…

Back to the routine, the children are dressed and have their backpacks on their backs. Now all that’s left to do is make sure their lunchboxes are full of healthy food before heading off to school. And if they’re frowning at vegetables and fruit, we also have suggestions to make healthy meals a lot more fun:

  • Cutlery To begin with, take your children into the kitchen while you prepare dinner. From sorting out the ingredients to washing the vegetables or setting the table, helping to cook awakens curiosity about the meal.
  • color palette And since there’s no such thing as a child who doesn’t like colors, the more they are on the plate, the more fun it becomes. For starters, try mashed carrots, broccoli or include a good dose of sautéed vegetables at every meal.
  • lego Finally, how about drawing smiles on the plate with the food? Let them play and create different shapes. Being healthy is much more fun.

Ready to change everyday life at home and at school? Why not turn healthy eating into a moment of play?

But there’s more…

With tables set and routines changed, it’s time to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the FOOD Program. In Portugal, it is in partnership with Direção-Geral de Saúde (DGS) that Edenred is fighting obesity by highlighting the importance of healthy eating. To this end, the FOOD Barometers are carried out every year in 10 European countries to gauge the eating habits of employees. This year’s results were once again surprising. O 2019 Barometer revealed that 77% of European employees consider the nutritional quality of dishes served in restaurants to be important or very important and that the Portuguese are the ones who most recognize the strong influence of technology on healthy eating habits. Step by step, we’re reaching our goal. Make a difference too!
