Holidays 2025: Bridges and long weekends
2 de January, 2025
With the arrival of 2025, it’s natural to start thinking about how you can distribute and plan your vacations in the new year.
In this context, public holidays turn out to be a good opportunity to rest and disconnect from the routine on a more regular basis. And when they are tied to the weekend or allow you to bridge the gap, you can maximize the number of days you can take off from work in a row.
Find out which day of the week each of the 2025 public holidays will be on and what the possibilities are for long weekends and bridges throughout the year.
Holidays in Portugal in 2025
In 2025, 10 of the 13 compulsory national holidays will be on working days. Easter Sunday, October 5th and November 1st will be on weekends.
In addition to these, you should consider the municipal holiday in the town where your company is located and Carnival. In the case of the latter, it’s not a public holiday, but it is a day that some municipalities and companies grant to employees. In 2025, it will be celebrated on March 4 (Tuesday).
The mandatory national holidays are as follows:
- January 1st: New Year (Wednesday)
- April 18th: Good Friday (Friday)
- April 20: Easter (Sunday)
- April 25: Dia da Liberdade (Friday)
- May 1st: Labour Day (Thursday)
- June 10: Dia de Portugal, Camões e das Comunidades Portuguesas (Tuesday)
- June 19: Corpus Christi (Thursday)
- August 15: Assunção de Nossa Senhora (Friday)
- October 5: Implantação da República (Sunday)
- November 1st: All Saints Day (Saturday)
- December 1st: Restauração da Independência (Monday)
- December 1st: Dia da Imaculada Conceição (Monday)

Long weekends and bridges in 2025
Since there are three public holidays on Fridays and two on Mondays, there are five long weekends:
- April 18-20 (Friday to Sunday);
- April 25-27 (Friday to Sunday);
- August 15-17 (Friday to Sunday);
- November 29th to December 1st (Saturday to Monday);
- December 6 to 8 (Saturday to Monday).
What’s more, if you have the opportunity to take a day of your vacation to bridge, you can enjoy four consecutive days on the following occasions:
- May 1st to 4th (Thursday to Sunday);
- June 7 to 10 (Saturday to Tuesday);
- June 19 to 22 (Thursday to Sunday);
- December 25-28 (Thursday to Sunday).
These are the possible combinations of long weekends and bridges in 2025. With good planning, this year brings plenty of opportunities to relax, recharge and enjoy quality time with your family, friends or yourself.
