Read our latest article and discover the best that the Costa Verde, Nordeste, Silver Coast and Lisbon regions have to offer!

Are we on our way to the second week of Holidays in Portugal?

  1. Alentejo: a taste of the plains
In a land with so much to taste, it’s not surprising that life takes it easy. After all, nobody runs on a full stomach! If the north of the country filled us up, the Alentejo is a paradise. Alentejo’s gastronomy is truly unique: the bread, sausages and cheeses are unmistakable and, of course, there’s no pig like the black one! Dishes such as Açorda and Migas, Ensopado de Borrego and even the wonderful Sopa de Cação are served throughout the Alentejo region, which, when it touches the sea, also surprises us with the best feijoadas de búzios! Visit parishes such as Zambujeira do Mar, Vila Nova de Milfontes or Porto Covo and you’ll spend most of your day at the table, among snacks salted by the sea and real dishes of oceanic seasoning! Yes, the Alentejo can also be sweet! So on your vacation in Portugal, stop by Elvas and indulge in its famous Sericaia com Ameixas and take a trip to Évora to try the Torreão Real! We could stay here forever, there’s no shortage of food, but it’s time to move on. The table is already set in the Algarve!
  2. Algarve: the taste of any
The Algarve is a true paradise, as tourists have already chosen it as their favorite vacation spot in Portugal! There’s nothing better than a good dinner after a day spent on the long sandy beaches of the Algarve. Options? Believe me, there are plenty! From seafood soups to cataplanas of all kinds, no one goes hungry in the Algarve! We could write a whole article on the gastronomy of this region, but we’d still run out of space, so we’ll let you discover everything and tell us what your favorite dishes are! After all, you just have to drive along the coast! Don’t forget to stop off in Lagos to try the mythical D.Rodrigo, and don’t miss out on the puff pastry from Olhão! Hurry up and park the car, because we still have a plane to catch!
  3. Madeira: the island’s delicacies
Just landed and already feeling overwhelmed by the fantastic climate? Wait until you sit down at the table! Madeira produces the best beef kebabs on a laurel stick in the world and an unbeatable number of swordfish recipes! Start by ordering the famous limpets, seasoned with lots of garlic, and you already know that Bolo do Caco is a must to accompany your meal. Speaking of side dishes, don’t be surprised by the fried corn, enjoy it! Did you think you could skip the soup? Before or after the main course, be sure to order the unique Tomato and Onion Soup with poached egg (delicious, by the way). To finish on a high note, refresh yourself with the island’s tropical fruits and finish off your Madeiran wine – did you know that there are more than 30 varieties of wine in Madeira? – with a Honey Cake and a Fennel candy!
  4. Azores: a happy gastronomy!
We continue on to the Azores, the archipelago where even the animals are happy, especially the cows! Made up of nine islands, it’s no wonder that the variety of cuisine is great! On these islands, tuna is caught hook and line and the octopus stew is breathtaking. Take advantage of the Azorean coastline and treat yourself to mackerel, barnacles and limpets! And don’t let your vacation in Portugal end without trying Cozido das Furnas, cooked in the ground with the heat that comes from the earth on the island of São Miguel. It’s truly impressive! Delight yourself with the Alcatra and finish off with the strong flavor of the Queijo da Ilha! Finally, to sweeten your palate, try the famous Bolo Lêvedo and the wonderful Queijadas da Vila.

And here we have our Portugal, full of aromas and flavors that fill us with pride and sharpen our taste buds! Portuguese gastronomy tells us the stories of our country and awakens us to the best it has to offer. Don’t miss out on the delights of our beaches, plains and mountains and discover the true spice of Lusitania!
