Today is a day for serious play!
28 de May, 2020
On the International Day of Play, it’s a day for playing and playing together! But be aware that play is a very serious matter…
Play and the playful aspect of life have always been a fundamental part of human nature and development. If, on the one hand, little ones take ownership of the world and learn to socialize when they play imitating grown-ups, on the other hand, adults are capable of having a great time whenever they dare to play as if they were still little!
In all cases, play is essential for happiness. When we have fun and laugh, our bodies release dopamine, endorphins and serotonin into the bloodstream, the hormones of happiness! There are many benefits to playing, in all its many forms. In addition to its ludic aspect, of enjoyment and entertainment, essential to the whole act of playing, capable of bringing smiles to our faces and giving life that relaxed lightness of fairy tales and the exploits of superheroes, play is also a privileged way of learning more about the world, yourself and others. We can even adapt our old saying and say that it’s “when we play that we understand each other!”.
So it’s not surprising that even in the workplace it’s essential to know how to play and laugh, at the right time, of course! The truth is that play strengthens team spirit and promotes well-being, which, as we know, has direct implications for motivation and productivity. That’s right, parents and children, adults and children, educators and students, friends and coworkers – everyone really wins when they play together!
So, after a period in which we’ve had to give up many of our favorite pastimes, it’s time to get back to our most energetic laughs and adapt them to our new daily habits. To join in the fun that everyone can be a part of, take a look at the tips we’ve provided here:
- Journey back in time, outdoors!
With the good weather we’ve been enjoying over the last few days, there’s nothing better than outdoor activities to wake up the body and free the spirit! How about remembering some of our childhood games and sharing them with the little ones? All you have to do is find somewhere airy, quiet and spacious and voila: the perfect conditions are in place for family fun! From Mata, to the flag game, to the traditional game of catch, there are plenty of options. You just have to choose which activity you want to have the biggest laugh with! - Analog still exists!
Nowadays, with technology, digital games are often our first choice, which ends up leaving out a very important component of any game: social interaction! In this period of recommended recollection, how about taking a look back at analog thinking games? With family, friends or even as a couple, there’s no game more challenging and fun than an evening of mime, a fun hour of “who am I?” or a good time playing STOP! - Creativity is the greatest adventure!
For all those who live for movement, playing has never been easier! Everything is possible with a little creativity, so believe me, with imagination we can all take part in the next Olympic games. Well… at least the ones at home! With everyday objects such as dish scourers or bath sponges, cans, ropes and balls, the game of target shooting takes on a whole new dimension! Targets drawn on the floor and wet sponges, cans hanging from trees and balls ready to be thrown – are you ready to prove who has the best aim in the house?
Are you full of energy? Then play! At home, in the park, at work, with the family, alone or accompanied. The important thing is that you play. After all, there’s always time to be happy!
