22 de June, 2020

Edenred Portugal and Too Good To Go have joined forces in the fight against food waste. Through this partnership, the two organizations will promote a series of initiatives aimed at raising community awareness and adopting more responsible habits.

In Portugal, it is estimated that more than 1 million tons of food are wasted per year, which represents 17% of national food production. Food waste is a problem with implications not only in terms of the food thrown away, but also in terms of the
underutilization of resources used in the production process, accounting for 8% of food waste. of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Promoting healthy and sustainable eating habits has always been one of Edenred‘s main commitments. As part of its social responsibility strategy, Edenred Portugal has been committed to raising awareness among the more than half a million users of the card Euroticket Refeição card and its 14,000 restaurant partners. An example of this is the FOOD program, a Group initiative supported by the European Union and, in Portugal, by the DGS – Directorate-General for Health.

For its part, Too Good To Go has been an important agent in the fight against food waste, speeding up the process of reselling food produced in restaurants and in perfect condition for consumption, which would otherwise be thrown away. Through its App, Too Good To Go thus gives establishments a new opportunity to sell food that is in great condition and, on the other hand, the end user the opportunity to consume meals and food in a conscious and tasty way. Both contribute to a more sustainable world.
