Technology and food go hand in hand
31 de May, 2019
There are those who criticize it, there are those who support it and there are those who, inevitably, can no longer live without it. Are we aware of how much technology is present in our lives? We’re not talking about how we don’t spend a day without our cell phones or how we work in front of the computer. We’re not even talking about how many times the Internet helps us throughout the day… today, we’re talking about the impact of technology on our diet.
Have you ever come home without wanting to cook? I’m sure you have. The solution has never been as simple as it is now, because it’s just a phone call or a click away. In the second edition of Let’s Talk FOOD – an Edenred initiative, which took place in France on June 29th – the influence of technology on the food industry was debated. The speakers were Julien Tanguy, Managing Director of Edenred France, Daniele Gerkens, Editor-in-Chief of Elle à table and Stephane Ficaja, Managing Director of Uber Eats in Western and Southern Europe.
In this text, we’re going to talk about what has changed in food consumption habits. In France, the food industry is changing, largely thanks to the boom in Food Delivery and Food Influencers or recipe blogs, in Portugal the reality is not very different. From generation to generation, consumers themselves have become increasingly demanding.
Today, speed, quality of service, price and quality of food are key when making a choice. Customer satisfaction is the great mission of food companies and, in this sense, technology has played a very important role.
After all, what has changed?
How many days do you not feel like cooking? Or those days when you feel like doing something different but don’t know where Grandma’s cookbook is? Do you also find yourself turning the TV to the cooking channel for inspiration?
Technology is everywhere, and in things as simple as these. When we call to order food and even when we do it from an app. When we look up the recipe for our favorite dish on the internet, and when we zap the TV. It helps, doesn’t it? These are all small examples of how habits are changing. And where you least expect it, technology is there to lend a helping hand.
When hunger strikes and the desire to chop vegetables is in short supply, the kitchen robot is further proof that technology can be our best friend. Evolution is undoubtedly the key word and, with generations becoming ever more demanding, the trend is set to continue.
The future of food will go hand in hand with technology. Always with new solutions, associated with new means of payment and more diversified services.
On the road to healthier eating
When it comes to our health, technology can’t be left behind either, and food even less so. Nowadays, both on blogs and social networks, tips are spread all over the internet. Even consultations with the best nutritionist can be done on screen.
Using apps to exercise and write down the calories consumed each day is also an increasingly common habit It’s true that technology accompanies us all the time and everywhere. Our biggest consumption habit is to use it for almost everything.
Today, when you’re preparing dinner, remember this text and notice… it’s there.
