Employee benefits: What to expect in 2023
26 de December, 2022
Employee benefits are a key factor that increasingly weighs on employees’ decision to stay with a particular company or take on a new professional challenge.
These supplementary salary benefits are an important – often decisive – criterion that candidates take into account when accepting a job offer.
In 2023, the “battle” for attracting and retaining talent is expected to remain intense in some industries. It is therefore expected that organizations will continue to consolidate their extra-salary benefits.

Training support
Employees tend to value companies that show an interest in their progression and invest in developing their skills.
According to the study “Total Compensation 2022″, carried out by Mercer, support for training and professional development is becoming more important. Around 57% of the companies surveyed are covering the costs associated with employee training (compared to just 46% in 2021).
This support for training can be done in a variety of ways: setting a budget for participation in conferences, training, courses or postgraduate courses, etc.; access to e-learning platforms; enrolment in language schools; holding regular in-house training sessions: among others.
Health plans
The same Mercer study indicates that 90% of companies offer a health plan, and in 70% of cases this is extended to the employee’s spouse and children.
This trend will prevail in 2023, as this is a widely valued benefit.
Flexible benefits
2023 will also be the year when companies continue to become aware that people with different lifestyles and at different stages of life have different needs.
Flexible benefits are gaining relevance in the organizational universe to respond to this diversity of employee interests and expectations. Some of these benefits could be
- Support for childcare and education costs for employees with children/dependents;
- Support for health costs and social support (such as nursing homes, home care services, etc.);
- Support for mobility, through the allocation of a company vehicle or transport tickets, for example;
- Life insurance, pension plan, PPR or others;
- Additional vacation days.
These trends will quite possibly mark the year 2023 as far as the extra-wage benefits granted by companies are concerned.
